Letshego Uganda, as part of the Letshego Group, works towards making relevant and notable contributions to the social development agenda in the areas of education, culture and arts, welfare and poverty alleviations, environment and HIV/AIDS sectors. This was achieved in the last year through support to HIV / AIDs programs in Kampala.

1. Nutritional support to HIV-positive Policemen serving in the Uganda Police Force

Letshego Uganda commenced its CSR activities with a much-needed contribution towards nutritional support for Policemen living with HIV / AIDS. Given during a colorful event at Alive Medical

Services Clinic in Kampala, Letshego Uganda was able to provide financial support sufficient to feed 45 police families for a period of 4 months. Alive Medical Services is a clinic that provides comprehensive HIV/AIDS treatment, supported by a Nutritional Program necessary for those on the rigorous HIV/AIDS ART.

The Letshego Uganda staff happily contributed to this through preparing the monthly food packages for the police families.

2. Donation of Bicycles To Gulu Village Health Teams

Since the Ministry of Health personnel are part of Letshego Uganda’s client base countrywide, MP Uganda felt it prudent to appreciate this long standing business relationship. An appropriate platform to do this was identified as provision of resources support to health initiatives currently being implemented by the Ministry of Health at district level, specifically, the Village Health Team (VHT) Program.

Letshego Uganda donated 70 bicycles and t-shirts to the leaders of the Village Health Teams in Gulu District in an event at the Gulu District Headquarters that was graced by the Deputy Chairman, Local Council V, Mr. MakmotKitara; a representative of the Mayor’s office, Mr. Ojara; Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Oloya Steven, Gulu District VHT Focal
Person, MrLachoka

Gulu District in Northern Uganda (a region that is currently recovering from over 20 years of war) has more than 250 Village Health Teams that are currently among the most active in the country but are hindered by resource needs for items such bicycles to facilitate home visits, torches for movement at night in the rural areas, raincoats, t-shirts & caps for branding and protection against natural element. Bicycles were chosen for donation due to:

  • Durability of the bicycles (3 years plus)
  • Ability to brand them hence providing awareness for Letshego Uganda’s brand and support initiative
  • Usage of the bicycles by the VHT members to be able to reach even more people during their health outreaches/home-visits, and therefore a contribution by Letshego Uganda to better health standards of residents of Gulu District

In July 2010 Bududa district in eastern Uganda was hit by a landslide disaster owing to unusually heavy rains. Among other problems, most of the primary schools were swept away by the landslides.

Letshego Uganda donated school classroom desks to the few schools that remained operational.

3. Kabale Malaria Drive

As part of Letshego Uganda’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Kabale District in Southwestern Uganda was identified to host the 2011 CSR, reason being the fact that it’s one of the many malaria prone areas in Uganda.
Letshego Uganda organized a one day health outreach event dubbed “The Kabale Health Fair”, its target being civil servants in this region who would benefit from an all-day Health Fair.

This event took place at the Kabale Primary School (DEMO) and a number of district officials attended including the District Education Officer, District Health Secretary and the regional chairman for the teachers` union Mr. Filbert Baguma.

4. Katakwi - VCT exercise for Uganda Police servicemen of ASTU

Letshego Uganda organized an HIV Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) exercise for the Uganda Police servicemen of the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) that is headquartered in Katakwi district.
